My first birthday, well almost

1st-birthday-ih-255I intended to write a post about my first year as a blogger on the day but it turned out that we were in Madrid for that particular milestone so I’m late to my own party. Its passing has prompted me to make a few changes. I’ve ditched the archive links and instead have set up index pages for fiction, non fiction and the opinion pieces I’ve posted now and again, and the About page has had a tiny rejig. Which is about the extent of it. Nothing that really deserves the word ‘re-launch’ but a few improvements, I hope.

As for the experience, I’ve enjoyed blogging far more than I ever expected. I’ve had some great exchanges through readers’ comments, have explored lots of interesting book blogs, been asked to make contributions to Reading Matters and Shiny New Books, and received a Liebster nomination from annethology – all very flattering. Blogging also forced me, finally, to take the plunge and join Twitter. It’s very pleasant in my part of the Twitter woods, no nastiness only pleasant little chats bearing out my theory that people who read books are all the nicer for it. I had intended to write more about things other than books but that’s not the way it’s worked out which will surprise no one who knows me. The ‘things I did on my holidays’ and ‘books to look out for’ posts seem to have become regular features with the odd opinion piece thrown in if something takes my fancy or annoys me intensely: step forward Amazon. I hope I’ve entertained those that visit regularly. Let me know if there’s anything that you particularly like, or don’t like. Opinions welcome, nicely expressed – but you’re readers so I know they will be. And, finally, thank you all for dropping by. I hope you’ll continue to do so.

Congratulations! I hope I can reach this milestone – I only plucked up the courage to start a blog a few weeks ago. I really enjoy reading yours, the reviews are always very balanced and thought-provoking. Keep up the good work! 🙂

Thanks so much, and I do hope you enjoy blogging as much as I do. So many people out there with interesting things to say about books.

I would offer to sing ‘Happy Birthday’, but I like you far too much to impose such a terrible penance on you. You will just have to make do with my good wishes instead.
