I first used this meme three years ago having spotted it on Margaret’s Pyrenees to Pennines which I follow for her striking photography. She’d picked it up from Jo at The Book Jotter, the meme’s originator, who has since decided to throw in the blogging towel. Happily, Emma at Words and Peace has decided to revive it. It’s a simple way of picking out and arranging some of the books you’ve read this year and it’s fun to do. I’m sticking with the headings I used in 2023.

I’d better join in … I’ve read 8 of your choices, and failed to read 2 as the library called them back before I’d had a chance to get properly stuck in, I was particularly disappoited not to finish the Colm Tóibín. Should I re-request the Frida Slattery as Herself?
Definitely – it’s one of my 2026 favourites. That’s a shame about the recalls. A hazard of a very healthy TBR!

It’s an enjoyable one to put together, Cathy. I gave it a mention on one of my Snapshot of my Reading posts. I wasn’t sure about it at that point but did end up enjoying it.
I usually like his work and the setting appealed.
He’s an interesting writer, isn’t he. Such a range, and yet he doesn’t seem to get much attention.

What a great mapping idea. I remember some of these books from your reviews. Like your selection of Irish writers and debut novels in particular. I enjoyed Absolution but wondered about the credibility of some of the storyline at the time. I must read more of her books.
It’s a great way to look back at the first half of the reading year. Absolution’s not my favourite McDermott. I much prefer Charming Billy although it’s no longer in print in the UK, sadly.
